As we age most adults experience changes in our vision and hearing. Vision and hearing can be important in determining our ability to live independently. Hearing may diminish as the result of typical aging but it may also be associated with some medical conditions and medications. Hearing loss may make it more difficult to fully understand medical and financial information and hinder our ability to make informed decisions. Hearing loss may also make telephone conversations difficult, make hearing doorbells and smoke alarms difficult and may reduce our ability to enjoy television, music or conversations with family and friends. However the impact of many hearing loses may be lessened with adaptive aids and assistive technology.
This program will assist participants to demonstrate knowledge about the various types of hearing loss and their potential functional impact on daily living activities. It will provide knowledge about professionals who may be involved in diagnosing , treating and supporting hearing loss. This program will cover the potential array of resources and strategies that may help aging parents remain living independently.
